Mission Parivar Vikas Yojana Family Planning Scheme By Central Government

What is the one thing that arrests the rate of development of any country or state? The answer is simple; it is the teeming population of the area. This is the same issue that a population intensive nation like India faces. But now, the central government is putting stress on designing plans and reforms, which will out a stopper to the growing population, by increasing awareness and educating the people. The scheme by which, the central government along with the cooperation of the state governments are planning to implement it, is known as Mission Parivar Vikas. Under the scheme, the central government has identified areas where the fertility rate is very high. Steps will be taken to bring the fertility rate down by following strategic planning and awareness.

Launch Date

The official announcement of the Mission Parivar Vikas was done by Shri J P Nadda. He is the head of the Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare. The deceleration was made on the 26th of September, 2016. It was mentioned in the draft that the central and the authorities of the selected states will make arrangements of implementing the program within a span of 3 months. All the activities and decisions, associated with the Mission Parivar Vikas scheme will be looked after by the Health & Family Welfare Ministry.

  1. Number of areas – as the reports say, the central government has already made the selection of the seven states that have high fertility rate. A total of 145 districts have been put under the radar.
  2. Target of ideal TFR – all the seven states and the 145 districts have a fertility rate that is more than 4%. These areas add 44% of the total population of the nation. As per the guidelines of the scheme, the authorities will try to lower the fertility rate to 2.1% till 2025.
  3. Lowering maternal and infant deaths – with the implementation of the scheme, both the central and state governments will be able to put a stopper to the percentage of maternal and infant mortality. As per the survey reports, the areas that have been selected; contribute to a whopping 25% – 30% and 50% of maternal and infant deaths.
  4. Making contraceptives available – main stress is to be given on the educating the young couples about taking protective measures. The authority will make sure that people have easy access to contraceptives. The program will make contraceptive pills and condoms available at low prices.
  5. Bringing down young motherhood – according to the TFR percentage in UP, it can be concluded that the women give birth to at least 3 children in their life span. It means that number of young or adolescent mothers in the area is high.
  6. Family planning kit – when any couple gets married, the state authority of UP will gift them a family planning set. The total cost of the set is Rs. 220 and it will consist of all the things that are required for restricting the conception of a child. The set will have 3 condoms, the certificate of marriage, five contraceptive tables and two pregnancy testing kits.
  7. Contraceptive injections and condom boxes – the state authorities will also be putting condom boxes in some of the health centers in the selected districts. Also, the health authorities will be initiating a special contraceptive injection for the women. Each injection will cost Rs. 100.

Training under Mission Parivar Vikas Yojana

Apart from training and making the young couples aware about the advantages of keeping the fertility rate low, the state and the central authorities will be joining hands for providing practical as well as theoretical training to 47000 nurses Asha health workers for helping the women and others.

District and State covered Under Parivar Vikas Yojana

As of now, the health ministry has successful detected 7 states, which have a very high rate of fertility. These states are UP, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand Chhattisgarh, and Assam. To break it down further, around 145 districts have been identified in all these states. All these districts have TRF more than 4%. For instance, districts like Bahraich & Balrampur, Siddharthnagar have TRF of 4.8 and 4.9 respectively.

Why is Mission Parivar Vikas needed?

One look at the demographic data of the Indian population and the associated deaths are caused due to lack of awareness among the people. With the help of this program, the TRF will be lowered, the population will be controlled, the maternal and infantile deaths will be lowered and the people will get a much enriched lifestyle. The program will be implemented in all the districts at the very same time.

The government is trying to hit the root of the problems by eliminating the causes that lead to a phenomenal growth in the population of an area. By putting a leash on the population issues, the government will be able to prepare the base for a better tomorrow.
